A world champion whistler and multi-instrumentalist, he weaves classical elegance, Latin rhythm, and improvisational soul of jazz into a sound uniquely his own. Yuki Takeda is the most decorated competitive whistler in history. A seven-time world champion with 10 first-place titles and more than 20 trophies, he has placed in every international competition he has entered. Most recently he has won both the a cappella and Hikifuki (self-accompaniment) categories of the 47th Worlds Whistlers Convention, making him the first in history to win the two main musical categories.

Also a multilingual vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, Yuki excels on guitar, Venezuelan cuatro, ukulele, Venezuelan maracas, cajón and human beatbox. His artistry blends jazz improvisation, Latin traditions, pop, and classical influences into a distinctive and expressive musical voice. With his forte, whistling with self-accompaniment a.k.a. “Hikifuki” , he has won five World Champion titles, making him unarguably the world’s best solo whistling act.

An internationally recognized artist, Yuki has performed across the globe, including Japan, the United States, Venezuela, Mexico, China, Cameroon, France, Australia, India, Singapore, and more. He has appeared on numerous television programs, radio interviews, and newspapers at home and abroad as a renowned whistling specialist and educator.

Yuki is also featured as a beloved central figure in the 2025 documentary WHISTLE by the Academy Award-nominated Australia-based Songbird Studios, which premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival and has filled the auditoriums at DOC NYC, Sydney Film Festival, SXSW London and many other film festivals worldwide.

Beyond performance, Yuki is a global advocate for music and the advancement of whistling as a serious artistic discipline. As an educator fluent in five languages, he promotes the development, awareness, and understanding of whistling techniques worldwide. His work includes serving as a featured speaker at TEDxUTokyo, as well as organizing international whistling symposiums, bringing together artists and scholars from Japan, the Canary Islands, Slovenia, and beyond to global audiences. He has provided masterclasses and workshops to expert whistlers in Japan, India and globally online.

He is the co-author of the 2025 book 口笛のはなし (kuchibue no hanashi – “Let’s Talk About Whistling”), a multidisciplinary exploration of whistling as an art form written with bestseller non-fiction writer Hazuki Saisho, and is co-founder of the International Whistlers Guild and the Global Whistling Championship – the most accessible competition for whistlers worldwide, where he also serves as a judge.

Yuki continues to expand global awareness of whistling as a serious musical discipline.
